Network Security and Administration

The greatest threat to your organization today comes from network attacks, both internal and external. The perpetrator may be a virus, spyware or, regrettably, a disgruntled employee. With a steady increase in incidents it’s surprising that most organizations are still neglecting security.
Compass Consulting will work with you to develop and implement a security solution for your organization. We will establish a security policy, assess your risks to better understand vulnerabilities, implement the appropriate amount of protection, and measure and enforce compliance.

Active Directory (AD)
Active Directory provides a central authentication and authorization service for Windows platforms. The Active Directory structure makes it possible for you to achieve truly centralized management of users, regardless of how big your network has become. With Active Directory, network administrators can add a user to Active Directory, and through that entry enable remote access to the network, Exchange messaging, database access, and access to other applications that utilize Windows integrated authentication.

The biggest benefit your organization’s users will see from using Active Directory is that it enables a single sign-on. Once a user logs on to Windows, their Active Directory credentials become the key that will automatically unlock all of their authorized applications and services. The biggest benefit for administrators is that by creating a link between user accounts, mailbox accounts, and applications, an administrator can quickly and easily perform their tasks of adding, modifying, and deleting user accounts all in one place.

Firewalls
A firewall’s task is to regulate the flow of traffic between networks of different trust levels (e.g. your internal networks and the Internet). With proper configuration, firewalls can be used effectively to prevent network intrusions. Without proper configuration they can become ineffective.

Firewall configurations can be complex, and unless performed by a qualified technician can lead to a false sense of network security. Compass Consulting and our certified network engineers can help to properly configure and maintain your firewall so it continues to protect you well into the future.
