Let’s admit it. In this day and age, being without Internet access is like being without air – be it for our laptop, our phone, or any other hand held device. Technology is our window to the world, and provides us with many social outlets and the information we need, when we need it. But when it comes to vacationing and “leaving it all behind”, people get separation anxiety. Many customers and travelers now chose businesses and destinations based on their ability to provide reliable and free Wi-Fi access.
One of our recent projects was for a large Riverside County, California KOA campground facility. The operators wanted to provide free, publicly accessible wireless Internet for their guests throughout the site. To achieve this, Compass Consulting performed extensive pre-deployment site surveys around the site, including access-point detection, spectrum and interference analyses.
After the site survey results were compiled, Compass Consulting recommended and installed three outdoor wireless access points, each with external high gain antennas. The main access point was installed on the roof of the central facility office building. The two other access points were configured as repeaters, and were mounted to the top of light posts on opposite sides of the park. Post-installation surveys and Wi-Fi “Heat Maps” confirmed that the entire campground facility was blanketed with Wi-Fi at maximum signal strength in all areas.
Now their guests have free wireless access anywhere in the park – an added bonus they can all enjoy while relaxing on vacation.
