The U.S. Department of Homeland security is advising us not to use the Microsoft Internet Explorer Web browser until a fix is found for a serious security flaw that was announced over the weekend.
According to FireEye Research Labs, the internet security firm that discovered the flaw, the attack will not work without the Adobe Flash plug-in for IE. As a quick fix, users can temporarily discontinue the use of the Microsoft Internet Explorer browser or simply disable the Adobe Flash plug-in for IE (see how-to links below).
Microsoft has confirmed that it is working on a fix, although as of Monday morning no fix had been posted. Microsoft typically releases security patches on the second Tuesday of each month. The next one is Tuesday, May 14. It is not known whether the company will release a patch for this vulnerability prior to that date.
